The center announced on Twitter the Plough Center for Sterile Drug Delivery Solutions is developing hand sanitizer during the COVID-19 outbreak.
A week into the city’s declaration of a civil emergency, the Shelby County Health Department announced Friday, March 27, that 2,218 people have been tested for COVID-19 within the county since the public health crisis began.
For weeks, healthcare professionals have lacked the ability to rapidly test for COVID-19, but now the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s own testing lab is up and running—with capacity to process around 1,000 tests per day.

10% of people tested so far in Shelby County have been positive for COVID-19. As of Friday morning, 2,218 people had been tested for COVID-19 in Shelby County, according to the health department. That puts the tests coming back positive at 10.05%, with 223 people testing positive in Shelby County.
With cases ratcheting up 20 and 30 people a day in Shelby County, the rate of transmission is still thought to be a month or two from plateauing, which means health experts are pounding home social-distancing warnings.
