Why Andrea Malkin, a top legal exec, moved over to medicine at UTHSC

Andrea Malkin had worked as an attorney at the Memphis office of Lewis Thomason for 26 years, and been its managing shareholder for five. So, when she decided to leave the law firm — and her legal career — to take a position with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), not everyone agreed with her choice. In late June, Malkin started as the chief of staff at UTHSC’s College of Medicine, where she reports to its executive dean, Dr. Scott Strome. The career change stems from Malkin’s desire to blend her interests in medicine and administrative work, two areas that had become large parts of her career at Lewis Thomason.
