Kennard Brown, Ph.D., helmed the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s (UTHSC) master plan, which has resulted in about $400 million in new development. New, high-caliber facilities, he believes, are crucial to luring in top faculty and students. UTHSC isn’t just competing with other schools in the state, even though the bulk of students come from Tennessee. It’s competing, Brown asserts, with elite institutions like Harvard University, Brown University, and Wake Forest University.
