The Faculty Senate at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center recently announced its annual awards, naming Sally Badoud, assistant vice chancellor for Communications and Marketing, its Administrator of the Year for 2020-2021.

Other Faculty Senate award winners for 2020-2021 are: The Teaching and Learning Center, Presidential Citation Award; Information Technology Services, Presidential Citation Award; Digital Measures Team, Exceptional Meritorious Award; UTHSC Webmaster, Exceptional Meritorious Award; Office of Equity and Diversity, Certificate of Appreciation; Academic, Faculty, and Student Affairs, Certificate of Appreciation.

Badoud, who joined UTHSC in 2016, leads an office of writers, designers, and digital media professionals, who promote and support the university with communications, media relations, marketing, graphic design (print and digital), photography, website design, and social media.

“Sally has done an outstanding job directing communications and marketing for  the university to internal and external audiences,” said Ken Brown, JD, MPA, PhD, FACHE, executive vice chancellor and chief operations officer for UTHSC, who was was recognized as the  Administrator of the Year by the Faculty Senate in 2017. “She is intensely tuned-in to the needs of the faculty, staff, and students. She has updated and streamlined processes, promoted the image of the university, and worked hard to connect the university’s marketing and communications to the wider UT System. We are better for her leadership.”

Since joining UTHSC, Badoud has updated the campus’ digital signage system, email messaging platforms, and internal and external communications efforts. A graphic designer, she has refreshed the university’s logo and branding guidelines. She has also increased the number of branded utility pole banners around the Memphis campus; designed wayfinding signage in the renovated courtyard, with plans to expand that around campus; and worked with Landau Uniforms to create custom UTHSC scrubs and implement a standard for white coat and scrub embroidery.

Last year, Badoud led the university’s campaign for a UTHSC license plate, rallying 1,000 faculty, staff, students, and alumni to support the effort, which raises funds for academic programs. She also played a lead planning role in the successful inaugural UTHSC Giving Day in April.

“Sally was nominated for Administrator of the Year by the senate because of her effective and clear communication with the entire campus during an unsure and evolving year,” said Jillian McCarthy, PhD, CCC-SLP, associate professor and secretary of the Faculty Senate last year. Dr. McCarthy was chosen Senator of the Year by the organization. “Additionally, Sally was instrumental in assisting the senate in streamlining our branding and overall communication with the campus as a whole. In a year when communication was critical, Sally was a true leader. Sally and her team really did an excellent job during a very difficult year, making sure communication with the entire campus was efficient.”

Badoud said, “I am beyond excited and honored to receive this award and recognition from the Faculty Senate. I feel completely supported by a great Communications and Marketing team, a progressive supervisor, an outstanding campus, and fantastic colleagues in the UT System, as we continue to accelerate the UTHSC brand and bring awareness to all the impressive efforts that are taking place on the UTHSC campuses.”
