2023 Frank M. Norfleet Forum for the Advancement of Health – Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Health Care

Activity Overview: The Frank M. Norfleet Forum for the Advancement of Health was established at UTHSC in 1979 through a designated fund within the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis. The mission of the Norfleet Forum is to focus on the improvement of the health status of the citizens who reside in Memphis / Shelby County, the State of Tennessee, the nation, and the world, through concern for effective health policies and organization. The 2023 Norfleet Forum focuses on an understanding of the fundamental principles of Artificial Intelligence and Health Care and how technological advances could be used to improve patient outcomes.
Objectives:
- Define common terms and definitions related to the emerging field of artificial intelligence in healthcare, as well as demonstrate an understanding of current AI based technology.
- Identify the basic premise of tools and techniques involving process mining, digital twinning, and synthetic data to derive insights in care.
- Describe how artificial intelligence could be incorporated into the delivery of quality patient care.

Desired Outcome:
The goal of the 2023 Norfleet Forum is to convene a group of local and nationally renowned experts to discuss the various aspects of artificial intelligence (AI) and health care. The forum’s format is designed to provide interactive educational activities that enhance knowledge and allow local experts and leading scientists to discuss evidence-based data related to AI and health care. Panel discussions, along with question-and-answer sessions that include collaborative sharing of information and research, as well as networking with other healthcare professionals have shown to improve participant knowledge and competency.

Continuing Education for Non-Physicians: The UTCOM will issue Certificates of Participation to non-physicians for participating in this activity and designates it for CEUs using the national standard that 1 hour of educational instruction is awarded .1 CEU.
Accreditation: The UTCOM is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
