The UTHSC Women’s Resource Group recently raised $750 and collected several hundred articles of clothing for the Memphis chapter of Dress for Success during a recent charity mixer and fashion show. Cohosted by the College of Health Professions (CoHP), the event featured several members of the CoHP faculty and staff, as well as members of other colleges and departments.
“Dress for Success-Memphis has such a powerful mission that all of us can stand behind,” said Vice Chancellor for Human Resources Chandra Alston, EdD, SPHR, SHRM-SCP. “They seek to empower women to become economically independent through network support, professional attire, and development tools. It is fundamental to the work that they do to help women thrive in work and in life. The Women’s Resource Group partnered with our COHP staff and students to demonstrate our financial and physical support of the work to empower women in our great city. The best thing about this event was seeing all the beautiful women model, mingle, and enjoy a great time together with a purpose.”
In addition to the fashion show, guests also enjoyed a buffet, while talking and learning more about the work of Dress for Success Memphis, which has served more than 14,000 women in the Memphis metropolitan area since it began in 1999.
Next week, incoming CoHP students will volunteer at Dress for Success Memphis to help inventory the donated clothing items, as part of their orientation-week service project.
