On April 1, 2023, Valarie Fleming, PhD, CCC-SLP, began her role as the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for the Office of Academic, Faculty and Student Affairs. In this role, she will provide executive leadership for, and oversight of central campus administrative units that support academic programs and faculty members across the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s six colleges.
Fleming holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Central Arkansas, a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Memphis, and a PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Texas at Austin.
Fleming previously served as the Assistant Vice President for Curriculum and Academic Programs at Texas State University. While at Texas State University she served as professor and chair of the Department of Communication Disorders in the College of Health Professions, graduate program coordinator, presidential Fellow, and chair of the Council of Chairs.
Fleming is an active scholar whose works include an edited book, book chapters, journal articles, conference proceedings, conference papers, and invited lectures. She has served on university, college, and departmental committees, and has provided outstanding service throughout her profession.
