The Women’s Resource Group at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center teamed up with Dress for Success Memphis to host a Virtual Power Walk on Saturday, July 18. Participants all over the city engaged in running, walking, jogging, jumping, biking, rollerblading, etc. at a location of their choice.
The distance was optional. UTHSC sponsored 37 employees who participated in the event, which was also a fundraiser. Donations were given online through the UTHSC team page or directly to Dress for Success. UTHSC raised a total of $3,739 and ranked fifth overall in team fundraising.
“A few weeks ago, we contacted the local Dress for Success organization looking for ways to volunteer,” said Women’s Resource Group member Tarlesha Gales, who is also a compensation analyst in Human Resources at UTHSC. “They provided a myriad of activities in which we could assist them and the power walk caught our interest. It allowed us to display our solidarity with women globally who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. We learned more about the organization, assisted with fundraising efforts, and provided participants the opportunity to engage in a fun-filled, health-conscious activity for a really important cause.”
