On April 28, the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) at University of Tennessee Health Science Center will collaborate with the Collierville and Oakland (TN) Police Departments for the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Drug Take Back Day.
To increase public knowledge of safe medication disposal, student pharmacists from UTHSC will be on the scene offering instructions on correct disposal and assisting with the overall effort.
The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Collierville Police Department will have its collection at its headquarters located at 156 N. Rowlett in Collierville. Oakland’s collection will take place at the Oakland Walgreens, 14860 TN-194, off Highway 64 in Oakland.
“As future health care providers, UTHSC student pharmacists believe it is our prerogative to give back and participate in community service for the Memphis community,” said second-year student pharmacist Alec Stewart. “Any difference we can make in our communities will always be worth the effort. Collaborating with these police departments gives students a great opportunity to strengthen local relations and show the public that patient care is UTHSC’s number one priority.”
