The University of Tennessee Health Science Center has named Shenika Thomas, MBA, MPS, CFE, assistant vice chancellor of business and fiscal affairs for the Office of the Chancellor and Executive Vice Chancellor. She previously served as director.
“It is with great pleasure that I announce the promotion of Ms. Shenika Thomas to assistant vice chancellor,” said Ken Brown, JD, MPA, PhD, FACHE, executive vice chancellor and chief operations officer of UTHSC. “The aspirational goal of every manager or supervisor should be the growth and professional accomplishment of their staff.”
In her role, Thomas will be responsible for leadership and guidance for the chancellor’s office and its administrative units. Her daily responsibilities will include management of fiscal operations, financial planning, purchasing, accounts payable, payroll, budgeting, contracts, accounting and reporting, inventory control, and leased auxiliary enterprises and maintenance.
Thomas, who joined UTHSC in 2005, began her career at the university as an administrative assistant for the Office of the Chancellor. When she first started with UTHSC, Thomas didn’t have a degree, but five years later she acquired a bachelor’s degree, followed by two master’s degrees. Thomas is also a certified fraud examiner by the Association of Certified Examiners.
She has been a keynote speaker at several UTHSC campus-wide events on the importance of education to advance your career, including the annual UTHSC administrative professional luncheons.
“Ms. Thomas has worked hard to grow professionally and serves as a wonderful role model for any administrative professional here at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, to show that with hard work there is unlimited potential,” Dr. Brown said.
