The University of Tennessee Health Science Center has been named one of the 2017 Top Workplaces in the Greater Memphis area by The Commercial Appeal. It is the fourth consecutive year the university has achieved the designation.
The recognition is based solely on employee surveys conducted for the newspaper by Energage, a leading research firm on organizational health and employee engagement. UTHSC was among 60 local employers to make the Top Workplaces list this year.
Pay, benefits, and workplace culture were some of the topics in the survey. Employees were also able to add personal comments to the survey.
“My job provides the opportunity for me to learn and grow,” one UTHSC employee said. “It also allows me to encourage and motivate others to reach their full potential.”
Working at UTHSC feels like being “a part of the future of health care,” another employee wrote.
“I consider many of my colleagues to be an extension of my family,” a third employee commented. “There is flexibility in my job, which allows me to work hard/be productive, but also take a little time off here/there to tend to my life.”
Chandra Alston, EdD, MBA, associate vice chancellor for Human Resources at UTHSC, praised employees for their efforts.
“We did it again! Four years in a row, our employees have named us one of the Top Workplaces in Memphis,” Dr. Alston said. “It is an honor to work at a place with an incredible team of faculty, staff, students, and administrators. UTHSC is making a tremendous impact in Memphis and beyond, thanks to our outstanding employees.”
