UTHSC Among Top Workplaces in Memphis For Fifth Consecutive Year

|
Again this year, UTHSC has made the list of the Top Workplaces in the Greater Memphis Area, based on an employee survey done through The Commercial Appeal.

For the fifth consecutive year, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center has been named one of the Top Workplaces in the Greater Memphis area by The Commercial Appeal.

The recognition is based solely on employee surveys conducted for the newspaper by Energage, a leading research firm on organizational health and employee engagement. UTHSC was among 55 local employers that made the 2018 Top Workplaces list by scoring the highest on the anonymous surveys. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare joined UTHSC as Top Workplaces in the large employer category.

Pay, benefits, and workplace culture were among topics in the survey. Employees were also able to add personal comments. This year, Energage surveyed nearly 19,000 people employed at 74 companies and organizations, according to The Commercial Appeal. Survey responses are shared with the employers.

“We are proud of our recruitment and retention efforts to build a solid performing team to support our mission,” said Chandra Alston, EdD, MBA, associate vice chancellor for Human Resources at UTHSC. “Our employees’ dedication and commitment to the education of our students and to serving our community are all reasons we are a five-time Top Workplaces winner in Memphis.”

Dr. Alston thanked UTHSC employees for making the university a great place to work.

She also said annual participation in the Energage survey has been important to the UTHSC leadership, well beyond the prestige associated with being named among the Top Workplaces. “It’s important to gather feedback from employees and make adjustments to the workplace, so they know leadership cares and is listening to their concerns,” she said.
