Tanara Teal-Tate has been named as the assistant director of the Parking Authority for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). Her duties include taking a leadership and advocacy role with UTHSC Facilities Administration and Campus Police regarding parking lot planning, maintenance, cleaning, signage, enforcement, and management of special events. She is also responsible for reviewing and updating a comprehensive parking plan to meet the needs of all constituencies and making sure it is consistent with the overall campus plan.

A Memphis native, Teal-Tate has a proven track record for successful parking management. Previously employed as a parking manager at the University of Memphis (U of M) for 13 years, she was responsible for a customer base of approximately 25,000 people. Her responsibilities included the implementation of an online permit system that maximized the operation by reducing wait times. She also served on several committees.

Currently pursuing her doctorate, Teal-Tate has a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the U of M. She taught briefly in 2013 after earning a graduate certificate in Local Government Management and a master’s degree in public administration from the U of M. She is also a member of the International Parking Institute.

At UTHSC, she plans to examine and re-engineer operations and procedures, formulate new policies, and develop and implement new strategies for Parking Services. Teal-Tate reports directly to the executive vice chancellor and chief operations officer for UTHSC, Ken Brown, JD, MPA, PhD, FACHE.
