Starbucks, the newest addition to the UTHSC Food Court in the Madison Plaza building on the Memphis campus, will open July 20.
“We are excited to open this location at UTHSC,” said Starr Kelly, store manager of the new Starbucks location. “Being on a college campus, we get to dedicate all of our knowledge and experience to the students and employees, and you know, just make their day happy.”
Starbucks is another in a series of improvements to the Food Court to serve the university, the Medical District, and the public. A series of new food vendors were unveiled when the Food Court celebrated its grand reopening last year.
“Starbucks was one of the fundamental operations that I envisioned being a part of our UTHSC Food Court revitalization plan from the very beginning,” said Kennard Brown, JD, MPA, PhD, FACHE, executive vice chancellor and chief operations officer for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. “To see this become a reality is a testament to a lot of dedicated effort by the UTHSC team in its entirety, and an effort of which we should all be very proud. We are happy to provide this service to our faculty, staff, students, and Medical District partners.”
Hours for Starbucks will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The location at 920 Madison Avenue is open not only to UTHSC students, faculty, and staff, but to the Medical District and the general public.
Kelly, who has worked for Starbucks for eight years, says the location at UTHSC will be a full-service Starbucks and will have all the offerings available at stand-alone locations, including Lattes, Frappuccinos, Nitro Cold Brews, as well as breakfast, lunch, and bakery items. The UTHSC location will also have retail merchandise, such as mugs, tumblers, and 1-pound bags of coffee. Guests can relax in the many leather chairs at the shop.
The Food Court location will accept Starbucks gifts cards, the app, and Starbucks Rewards members can earn rewards to redeem at other Starbucks locations.
The Food Court location will follow safety guidelines. All baristas will wear masks and gloves. Guests are also required to wear masks. Visitors to the Madison Plaza will be required to have their temperature checked at a security checkpoint desk prior to gaining access to the building.
Starbucks in the Food Court will also offer catering to the UTHSC campus. Catering orders can be placed by calling 901.448.3504.
The UTHSC Food Court will unveil another addition in coming weeks, a Chick-fil-A.
