Shah Receives Occupational Therapy Profession’s Highest Honor

Surya Shah, PhD, professor of occupational therapy at UTHSC, recently was named a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association at its annual conference in Long Beach, Calif.

Surya Shah, PhD, professor of occupational therapy at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), recently was named a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association at its annual conference in Long Beach, Calif.

Dr. Shah is the first member of the UTHSC department of occupational therapy, as well as the first professional of Indian descent and Australian citizenship, to be selected for this prestigious honor.

Widely published and internationally recognized in his field, Dr. Shah received his master’s degree from the University of Western Australia, Perth, and his doctorate from the University of Teeside, Middlesbrough, England.

Having devoted his career to the field of occupational therapy, Dr. Shah was responsible for developing the first occupational therapy program with the Indian Army and Navy. He previously received the Award of Excellence in Research leadership for the Tennessee Occupational Therapy Association.
