Dust off those old sneakers and get ready to show support for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Nursing as nursing students host Kicking for the Kids, a kickball tournament to benefit Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
The event will be held on Saturday, November 11, at Tobey Park at 2599 Avery Avenue in Memphis. Kickoff begins at 10 a.m., and the championship tournament begins at 4 p.m.
“We chose to hold this event to benefit Le Bonheur,” said Kristi Haisler, a UTHSC College of Nursing student assisting with the event. “We are passionate about giving back to the community, and we know Le Bonheur is underfunded and that they do some incredible work.”
Haisler hopes Kicking for the Kids, a collaboration with other nursing students in Memphis, can become an annual event. To play in the tournament, participants should sign up to be on a team with a maximum of 15 people. The fee is $20 per person, or $300 per team, and includes a T-shirt. Participants can either build their own team or be assigned to one with a team captain.
“We think this event is an excellent opportunity to meet student nurses from other schools who share the same passions as we do,” Haisler said. “We encourage everyone to come out and cheer on the teams, even if they don’t want to play.”
