Nursing Student Awarded Memorial Scholarship from Army Nurse Corps

Heather Martin, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist student in Nursing and First Lieutenant in the Army Reserve, is being awarded a Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 by the Army Nurse Corps Association.

Heather Martin, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist student in the UTHSC College of Nursing and First Lieutenant in the Army Reserve, is being awarded a Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 by the Army Nurse Corps Association (ANCA). This prestigious award is given in memory of the three Army Nurse Corps officers who gave their lives at the Fort Hood Readiness Center in Fort Hood, Texas, in November 2009. The three soldiers, Lieutenant Colonel Juanita Warman, Captain Russell Seager and Captain John Gaffaney, were serving in the U.S. Army Reserve, preparing for deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan. They will be remembered for their bravery and ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country.

The certificate of award was presented to Martin today during the UTHSC College of Nursing awards luncheon at the Hilton Memphis Hotel, southeast ballroom.

The Army Nurse Corps Association is an organization dedicated to bringing Army nurses together in a social setting. The nurses are or have been Army nurses on active duty or members of the Reserve Components.
