Memphians without health insurance now have another alternative for lab tests. The Endocrinology and Lipoprotein Laboratory at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is offering a wide variety of lab tests at research prices. For example, a fasting lipid profile can be run for $8.00, a chemistry profile for $15.00, and an HgbA1c, the required test for diabetics, for $6.00. In addition to a wide variety of common tests, the lab also offers a one-of-a-kind service with their Advanced Lipid Analysis ($75).

Patients can go to the laboratory’s Web site (www.uthsc.edu/endocrinology, click “Laboratory”) for an order sheet, maps, and other information. Patients or their physicians can check off the tests they need and take the order to one of two locations: 920 Madison Avenue, Suite 300A or 756 Ridge Lake Boulevard, Suite 206. Forms are also available at these locations. Technicians will be available to draw blood on Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the downtown office and at the same times on Monday through Thursday at the Ridge Lake office (near the Hilton).

Results can be e-mailed, faxed, or picked up, usually within one week. For a full listing of tests available, please go to the Web site or call 448-4659.
