Next Friday – Conversations on Health Disparities – Transit Accessibility in Memphis

|

Join us on Friday, April 21 at noon in GEB A102 for a Conversation on Health Disparities discussing transit accessibility in Memphis. Memphis is a place of extreme class and racial disparities in transportation due to a high poverty rate, sprawled built form and exceptionally low per-capita spending on public transit even for a mid-sized city in the American South. These disparities severely constrain transportation-disadvantaged Memphians in their ability to access health care in both obvious and less-obvious ways. In this edition of Conversations on Health Disparities, Dr. Andrew Guthrie of the University of Memphis’ City and Regional Planning Department will discuss the causes and effects of transportation inequities in Memphis, as well as what can be done about them in terms of both policy and the practice of health care provision. Lunch will be provided, so please RSVP via Engage. This event is open to anyone at UTHSC, regardless of campus. Email Jess Guthrie (jguthri9@uthsc.edu) for the zoom link.
