Volunteer for our Upcoming Poverty Simulation ( Lunch Provided)

Please consider volunteering for an upcoming Poverty Simulation scheduled for Monday, October 30th. Poverty Simulations are an educational experience for both volunteers and participants, and they truly take a village to accomplish. Help students learn about the challenges people in poverty face in their daily lives. No experience is required, and multiple roles are needed. UNITE is excited to partner with Community Engaged Care and SASSI to offer UTHSC SafeZone training on Tuesday, October 24! 

UTHSC Safe Zone is a training opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to learn about LGBTQ+ identities, and examine prejudice, assumptions, and privilege within the scope of Healthcare and Health education.

“UTHSC SafeZone Certificates” available upon completion of the training. Dinner will be provided to those who RSVP by 5PM on Friday, October 20. RSVP via this link: https://uthsc.campuslabs.com/engage/event/9509151 The training will be in GEB A104 from 5-8 PM. 

This SafeZone training will serve as an intensive credit on the Co-Curricular Certificate on the Social Determinants of Health.

Conversations on Health Disparities : Diabetes Prevention: A Traditional Path for Native Americans (Medicine Wheel Nutrition)

Join The Office of Health Disparities Education and Community Engagement and The Office of Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity on Wednesday November 1st at 12:00pm for a Conversations on Health Disparities and lunch session as Fawn Galvan, PT,C/NDT,CPRCS (Paiute/Yaqui) educates us on the Medicine Wheel Nutrition and how Native American adults have a greater chance of having diabetes than any other racial group. This event commemorates Native American Heritage Month and Diabetes Awareness Month. This event is part of the Conversations on Health Disparities series, and is a credit on the Social Determinants of Health Co-Curricular Certificate.
