Erlanger hosted the 21st annual Dinner of Distinction recently at the Westin Chattanooga. The dinner honored four outstanding physicians and community leaders, all a part of the UT Health Science Center College of Medicine in Chattanooga, who have contributed to health care in the greater Chattanooga community.

Honored during the Erlanger Dinner of Distinction were, from left, Kelly Arnold, MD; Alvaro Valle, MD; James Haynes, MD, second from right; and Michael Carr, MD. All were honored for their commitment to improving the health of the community. Lynda Minks Hood, Erlanger Health System Foundations, is also pictured at center.

The 2025 honorees included:

  • James Haynes, MD, dean of the College of Medicine in Chattanooga and professor, honored as a Distinguished Physician for his leadership in medical education and commitment to training the future of health care.
  • Michael Carr, MD, associate professor, Department of Surgery, medical director, Surgical Skills and Simulation Center, honored as a Distinguished Physician for his dedication to the improvement of pediatric surgical care in the region.
  • Alvaro Valle, MD, assistant professor, Department of Surgery, honored as a Distinguished Physician for his exceptional skill and compassionate approach to patient care.
  • Kelly Arnold, MD, assistant professor, Department of Family Medicine, and a UT Health Science Center College of Medicine alumna, received the Gordon Street Distinguished Community Leader Award for her constant advocacy and service to underserved communities.

In addition to honoring individuals for their enduring commitment to improving the health of the community, the annual event recognizes them for demonstrating unquestionable character and human compassion. Additional criteria used to choose honorees include contributing a lifetime of medical benefit to the community and being committed to the healing mission and values of Erlanger.
