Communications and Marketing Wins Two Gold, Honorable Mention in 2014 MarCom Competition

marcomThe Communications and Marketing Department at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) earned distinction for their three entries in the 2014 MarCom International Awards. Two entries won Gold and one received Honorable Mention in the 2014 MarCom competition, which drew more than 6,500 entries from throughout the United States, Canada and 15 other countries.

CCA Gold award went to the Crisis Center Awareness Campaign in the category titled Media Relations/Publicity/Publicity Campaign. “The Communications and Marketing team achieved outstanding media placements during the campaign, coupled with strategic advertising placements,” said UTHSC Chancellor Steve J. Schwab, MD. “UTHSC billboard partner, Clear Channel Outdoor, agreed to support this life-saving initiative by generously donating select billboard, transit shelter and poster space in locations around the city.”

Memphis Crisis Center Executive Director Mike LaBonte told the UTHSC administration, “Since this campaign was re-instituted we have seen a 30 percent rise in our call volume. Keeping the name before the public helps ensure that those needing the services access it. The work of your staff and Clear Channel is making a tremendous difference.”

DentThe winter 2014 issue of Dentistry alumni magazine claimed the second UTHSC Gold, sporting a wordle on the cover that touted a novel “Seek and Find” feature article on expanded research initiatives. The publication won in the Magazine/Educational Institution category.

ColMemArtwork specially developed for the Colleges of Memphis earned an Honorable Mention in the category of Print/Illustration/Graphic Design/Infographic. For more than four years, UTHSC has been part of Mayor A C Wharton’s Colleges of Memphis initiative to acknowledge and elevate an appreciation for the intellectual capital of Memphis’s higher education community. This effort has included an official, annual back-to-school event, organized by the mayor’s office, for college and university students, faculty and staff.

“Well-deserved kudos to the entire UTHSC Communications and Marketing team,” Chancellor Schwab added.

Administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, MarCom is one of the largest competitions of its kind in the world. MarCom’s Gold Award is presented to those who exceed the high expectations of the industry norm, the award letter stated. Submissions are made in some 250 categories by corporate marketing and communications professionals, advertising agencies, public relations firms, design shops, production companies and freelancers.
