Boucher Named Interim Dean of UTHSC College of Pharmacy

Bradley A. Boucher, PharmD, FCCP, FNAP, MCCM, has been named the interim dean of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s College of Pharmacy. On June 1, Dr. Boucher, currently the associate dean for Strategic Initiatives and Operations in the college, will succeed Marie Chisholm-Burns, PharmD, PhD, MPH, MBA, FCCP, FASHP, FAST, who served as dean for 10 years. We are very proud that Dean Chisholm-Burns will become the executive vice president and provost of Oregon Health & Science University in July.

Dr. Boucher has been with the UTHSC College of Pharmacy since 1984, when he joined as an assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy. He practices in the area of critical care at Regional One Health, where he has been a clinical pharmacist since 1984. Through the years, Dr. Boucher has also served the UTHSC College of Pharmacy as vice chair for Institutional Programs and Strategic Planning in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, associate professor and vice chair for Research in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, associate professor in the Department of Neurosurgery, and professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science.

In making the appointment, UTHSC Chancellor Peter Buckley, MD, said, We are fortunate to have such a senior and highly experienced leader as Dr. Boucher to serve as interim dean. I know that Brad has the respect – and thereupon will have the support – of our College of Pharmacy community. I look forward to working closely with Brad and the College of Pharmacy executive leadership team over the coming months, as we transition to a new permanent dean at the conclusion of a national search.” 

Dr. Boucher received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1979 and his PharmD in 1983 from the University of Minnesota. He completed an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Kentucky in 1984. He was elected a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) in 1998 and a Master of Critical Care Medicine of the American College of Critical Care Medicine in 2015. In 2004, Dr. Boucher was elected as a pharmacy member of the National Academy of Practitioners. Additionally, Dr. Boucher received the 2011 ACCP Clinical Practice Award. He served as president of the ACCP in 2002 and was the president of the National Rho Chi Honor Society from 2016-2018. Currently, he serves as treasurer of the organization.

Dr. Boucher has published 95 peer-reviewed articles and more than 40 book chapters. He is also a dedicated mentor, having precepted nine fellows and 78 critical care residents.

A national search for a permanent dean is underway and is being co-chaired by Cindy Russell, PhD, RN, vice chancellor for Academic, Faculty, and Student Affairs, and Wendy Likes, PhD, DNSc, APRN-Bc, FAANP, dean of the UTHSC College of Nursing.
