The University of Tennessee Health Science Center wants to make sure you are doing your part on being protected from the flu virus this year by stopping by to receive a free flu vaccination at Boo Flu.
The event will take place in the Madison Plaza Lobby on October 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is available to all UTHSC students, employees, postdocs, residents and retirees. The event is being sponsored by University Health Services (UHS), the College of Pharmacy, the Office of Student Life, the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), and the Student Government Association Executive Council (SGAEC).
In 2016, flu cases in Shelby County tripled from the previous year according to the Tennessee Health Department. It is also estimated that between 5 to 20 percent of the U.S. population will get the flu on average each year, costing up to $10 billion in hospitalization and outpatient doctor visits.
Please remember to bring your UTHSC ID badge to receive a free flu vaccination while supplies last. Flu shots will also be available at University Health Services after October 16 if you can’t make it to the event. “Defend yourself against the flu,” Marie Bredy, DNP, FNP, UHS administrative director said. “Get the shot.”
Last year a total of 1,914 flu vaccinations were administered at Boo Flu.
