In response to recent security threats and to enhance the protection of the University of Tennessee’s systems, we are making an important change to the DUO authentication process. Effective Thursday, May 15, the current push notification method will be upgraded to a new system that requires users to type in a three-digit code in their mobile app.
This means that instead of just “Accepting” the DUO push, you now have to type in a 3-digit code appearing on your computer screen into the DUO app on your phone.
Why this change? You now have to have your app and your computer both in proximity to authenticate. If your credentials are compromised and someone attempts to log in as you, they cannot do so without having access to both your phone and your computer. If anyone asks for your DUO code, do not give it out, and report the incident to the IT Service Desk at 901.448.2222.
This change does not affect you if you authenticate using a hardware token.
