Dear Colleagues,
The remote/hybrid work schedule is an alternative work option for staff positions at UT Health Science Center (UTHSC) that provide advantages to both the employer and employee. Some positions, like those that are student facing, manual, or tactical, cannot be performed in a remote/hybrid situation. Additionally, institutions across the country are now reevaluating remote/hybrid workplace procedures which in 2020-2022 served as a key strategy in managing the COVID-19 crisis.
Supervisors should assess workplace needs as well as the individual readiness of the employee (i.e., self-directed, demonstrates initiative, responsive, etc.) prior to approving an alternate work schedule. The performance evaluation period is a great time to reconsider and adjust alternate work schedules to align with current departmental needs.
The remote/hybrid procedure has been updated to provide guidelines and standards for the establishment of remote and hybrid work arrangements either requested by regular, temporary, or student employees in an active pay status or when required by UTHSC.
As a result of the procedure update, we are asking all supervisors to review the procedure, evaluate your remote/hybrid schedules (if you have adopted any), make adjustments according to the updated procedure and as needed, re-submit Remote/Hybrid Request and Agreement forms to Human Resources no later than April 30.
