Title of talk: Technology-based assessments and interventions: Informing the future of substance use research
Brief bio:
Dr. Karen Derefinko is an Associate Professor of Preventive Medicine with a secondary appointment in Pharmacology, Addiction Science, and Toxicology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). Her primary research activities target the prevention and treatment of substance use disorder, including the effective management of pain. Dr. Derefinko conducts research protocols that utilize pharmacological treatment, including medications regulated by the DEA such as buprenorphine and cannabidiol (CBD), as well as behavioral treatment methods. One of her more recent areas of focus includes the use of technology-based assessments and interventions, a focus of her most recent grant applications and the topic of her presentation.
