TITLE: “Medical Needs and Legal Rights of Justice-Involved Children”

OBJECTIVES:
- Knowledge: Understand that many justice-involved youth present to the hospital after traumatic injury.
- Abilities & Skills: Be aware of health needs for this vulnerable population, including advocating for them if parents and guardians are not present.
- Medical Practice & Care Provided: Advocate for multidisciplinary care including mental and behavioral services, and treating traumatic brain injuries which can lead to repeat involvement in risk behavior.
- Patient Outcomes: Involving your hospital’s legal team to understand state law so patients can have parents present and/or involve din their child’s medical care.
