HANOVER WEBINAR: Developing Competitive NIH Proposals in Today’s Funding Landscape

Thursday, Nov. 19 | Noon – 1 p.m. (Central)

via Zoom | REGISTER TO ATTEND

In this webinar, Hanover will discuss recent developments in the NIH funding landscape and their implications for proposal development and review. The session will address how reviewers are considering significance, fit, feasibility, relevance, and impact, as well as why clear framing and justification have become increasingly important in today’s funding environment. Attendees will receive practical recommendations for strengthening Specific Aims and Research Strategy sections in today’s funding landscape, with a focus on connecting scientific gaps to health impact, clarifying innovation, addressing feasibility concerns, and presenting anticipated outcomes in a clear, reviewer-friendly manner.

Melissa Cornish, Managing Grants Consultant

Melissa partners with Hanover’s higher education clients to strengthen competitiveness through grant reviews, proposal development, and project design. She brings extensive experience in supporting submissions to major federal funders– NIH, NSF, USDA, HRSA, PCORI – as well as to private foundations dedicated to funding population health and biomedical research. Before joining Hanover, Melissa served as project leader/manager at research-intensive institutions where she supported, cultivated, and managed research collaborations, leveraged institutional resources, and provided extensive business development support. Her efforts spanned grant writing, proposal and budget development, program design, strategic planning, and communications. She began her career supporting federally funded program evaluations where she first learned the real value of a carefully crafted grant proposal.
