Regarding the 2024 Black History Month theme of “African Americans and the Arts,” highlight a specific musician or artist whose works have influenced your life and the extent to which that manifested. This essay should be a minimum of 500 words.

The submission period closes TODAY Thursday, February 15th at 1:00 p.m. CDT.

The National Museum of African American Music

The National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) officially opened in January 2021 at Fifth + Broadway in Nashville, Tennessee. The 56,000-square-foot institution is the only museum dedicated to educating, preserving, and celebrating more than 50 music genres and styles created, influenced, and/or inspired by African Americans, including spirituals, blues, jazz, gospel, R&B, and hip hop. Six distinct galleries feature artifacts, objects, memorabilia, clothing, and state-of-the-art technology designed to share a different narrative and a unique perspective on African American music and history.
