Mapping human behavior to certain areas of the brain by using functional MRI will be the focus for the annual Verstandig Lecture scheduled for Thursday, November 4 at 4 p.m. in the Coleman Building’s North Auditorium at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC).
The session will be presented by Stanford University’s Gary Glover, PhD, who is one of the leading experts in MRI, with interests in rapid MRI scanning methods including spiral techniques. The functional MRI technique has been used to localize motor, speech, vision and other functions with the brain using the BOLD principle and has demonstrated altered brain wiring in disease states. For example, this technique could help determine whether the centers for pleasure as they relate to chocolate and making money on the stock market are the same.
This session, which is free of charge, is targeted toward radiologists, neurosurgeons, neurologists, psychologists, image-oriented physicians, biomedical scientists/engineers, medical researchers and graduate/professional students.
