UTHSC Hosts Event to Encourage Collaboration in Memphis Medical District

|

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center will host the inaugural Memphis Medical District Healthcare Interprofessional Expo Wednesday, May 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student-Alumni Center, 800 Madison Avenue.

The free event is intended to highlight interprofessional collaboration and encourage teamwork by bringing together health care professionals from academic and clinical institutions across the Memphis Medical District and adjacent area. It will offer participants an opportunity to meet and learn from each other about ways to work together to improve patient care.

Faculty, staff and students from UTHSC, Christian Brothers University, The University of Memphis, Baptist College of Health Sciences, Southern College of Optometry, and other institutions are invited to learn about opportunities for collaboration, said Sajeesh Kumar, PhD, associate professor of Health Informatics and Information Management at UTHSC, who is leading the event. “This will be an enjoyable and informative day for faculty and all students who attend academic institutes in Memphis,” he said.

The Memphis Medical District Collaborative, a community development organization focused on making the Memphis Medical District more livable, vibrant, and safe, contributed funds through its event grant program to support the expo.

Ken Brown, JD, MPA, PhD, FACHE, executive vice chancellor and chief operations officer at UTHSC, will give opening remarks. Dr. Brown is the board chairman of the Memphis Medical District Collaborative.

The event includes interprofessional education opportunities, resources, and information, door prizes, and lunch.
