UTHSC College of Nursing Hosts Inaugural NightinGala to Salute Nursing In Memphis and Shelby County

|

Nurses from across Memphis, Shelby County, and beyond are expected to attend the NightinGala Celebration presented by the College of Nursing at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) May 5. The dinner and silent auction at the University Club begins at 6 p.m., and celebrates the accomplishments of nurses and the impact the profession has on the community.

Miss Colorado 2015 Kelley Johnson will be the guest speaker at the College of Nursing’s first NightinGala May 5.

Similar events have been staged by nursing organizations and academic institutions across the country; however, this is a first for the UTHSC College of Nursing. The guest speaker will be Miss Colorado 2015 Kelley Johnson, who during the Miss America pageant performed an original monologue about her experiences as a registered nurse.

The gala also will include presentation of the John Runyon Award, which celebrates a champion in the community who has promoted the efforts of nurses, and the inaugural Margaret Newman Nursing Award, honoring one who has made outstanding contributions in the nursing profession through health as expanding consciousness. The event is being held in conjunction with the 2017 UTHSC College of Nursing Alumni Weekend and National Nurses Week, May 6-12.

Gold Sponsors for the event are the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation, and Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare.

Proceeds will support the UTHSC College of Nursing’s efforts to develop and educate the next generation of nurse leaders.
