David Shibata, MD, chair of the Department of Surgery at UT Health Science Center, is among the 291 outstanding UT Health Science Center physicians on the 2025 Top Doctors list for Memphis.

Sixty-four percent of the Memphis physicians named in the 2025 Top Doctors list from national health care research firm Castle Connolly are affiliated with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Of the 452 Memphis physicians on the annual Top Doctors list, 291 are affiliated with UT Health Science Center. The list for Memphis is published in the June issue of Memphis Magazine.

“As the state’s public academic health care institution, we not only train tomorrow’s clinical workforce, but our faculty physicians, residents, medical students, and distinguished alumni provide the highest-quality care in Memphis and across Tennessee,” said UT Health Science Center Chancellor Peter Buckley, MD.

This testament to the clinical excellence of UT Health Science Center physicians comes as the College of Medicine prepares to welcome new Executive Dean Michael Hocker, MD, MHS, who joins the university this month. It also speaks to the outstanding leadership of G. Nicholas Verne, MD, who led the college as the interim executive dean for almost two years.
