Scott Campbell Named Emergency Management and Safety Officer at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center

Scott Campbell, a long-time emergency management official with the United States Coast Guard, has been named emergency management and safety officer for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC).

A native of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Campbell comes to UTHSC from New Orleans, Louisiana, bringing 26 years of military experience in emergency management, physical security, telecommunications and information technology. He is a retired member of the United States Navy and United States Coast Guard.

Campbell most recently was employed as an Information systems manager/physical security manager for the U.S. Coast Guard. Certified in National Incident Management Systems since 2009, his emergency response experience includes Hurricanes Katrina, Ike and Isaac in Louisiana and Texas; the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion; and the Haiti earthquake response at Sector Headquarters, U.S. Customs. Additionally, he has responded to emergency situations at the Border Patrol in Pembroke Pines, Florida; the 2012 NATO Summit in Chicago for maritime communications and presidential protection; and the 2009 G20 Summit in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

In his new position, Campbell will be responsible for providing leadership and direction in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the campus-wide occupational health and emergency management programs. These programs include business continuity, training programs, occupational hazards, risk management, emergency preparedness and regulatory compliances. The scope of responsibility includes approximately 50 buildings representing more than 2.9 million square feet in a 75-acre complex, as well as approximately 6,000 faculty, staff and students.

The search for an emergency management and safety officer was conducted by a search committee. Campbell will report directly to Emile J. David, associate vice chancellor of Facilities Administration.
