Memphis BioImaging Symposium Draws Internationally Recognized Experts

World-renowned experts in the major fields of medical imaging will gather at the Fogelman Executive Conference Center at the University of Memphis for the Fifth Annual Memphis BioImaging Symposium (MemBIS) on Thursday, Nov. 6, and Friday, Nov. 7.

World-renowned experts in the major fields of medical imaging will gather at the Fogelman Executive Conference Center at the University of Memphis for the Fifth Annual Memphis BioImaging Symposium (MemBIS) on Thursday, Nov. 6, and Friday, Nov. 7.

This year’s special topic, Cancer Imaging, will feature three experts who will primarily focus on pre-clinical imaging and molecular imaging in drug discovery, and development of new therapeutics for cancer treatment.

The event kicks off at 6 p.m. Thursday with the Cancer Imaging keynote address given by John Gore, PhD, Vanderbilt University. A reception will follow, featuring a networking session, research posters and commercial exhibits.

Friday’s symposium will feature David Geho, MD, PhD, Merck & Co. Inc., and Timothy J. McCarthy, PhD, Pfizer Global R&D, and will provide further scientific perspectives on the status and advancement of cancer imaging in the treatment of cancer.

Presentations on the latest in high-tech bioimaging by experts from Stanford University, University of Wisconsin, University of California San Diego, Harvard/Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Baylor College of Medicine will round out Friday’s program.

Thaddeus A. Wilson, PhD, associate professor, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Department of Radiology, serves as chair of the 2008 MemBIS Symposium. Steven J. Bares, PhD, president and executive director, Memphis Bioworks Foundation, serves as co-chair. MedImage Systems, Luminetx, Siemens and VisEn Medical lead the list of commercial supporters for the 2008 symposium, which also includes Vital Images, Hologic, Visualsoncis and Medtronic as sponsors.
