DDS, Rosenthal’s organization, holds an annual one-day symposium every August at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center for students age 14 to 18 and holds a much longer program for that same age group as well as children age 2 to 5, from January to June. Neither program is required to attend the other, there is no monetary requirement to enroll a student in DDS, and the GPA requirement has been eliminated. DDS students meet healthcare providers from a wide variety of backgrounds, hearing their stories and making professional connections as well as fostering potential mentorship opportunities. The experience isn’t solely focused on medical knowledge, either.
