The new chancellor of the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center signaled a fresh start for the Memphis-based school during his inaugural address Tuesday, Feb. 22.
Dr. Peter Buckley described abatement of the COVID-19 pandemic and new opportunities for growth
Buckley took office Feb. 1, 2022, after being confirmed unanimously by the medical system’s board of trustees. He was formerly the dean of the School of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University.
He succeeds Steve J. Schwab, who held the position for 12 years.
The new chancellor Tuesday pointed to the decline in COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations, using those numbers as a harbinger of optimism that signals a “less worrisome” reality with COVID-19.
