Study: Undiagnosed mental issues common among juvenile offenders

|

According to studies from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, kids are winding up in court instead of in a treatment facility. Leaders from the school and local mental health organizations met Monday to find solutions to the problem. Undiagnosed health concerns are contributing to kids thinking of themselves as criminals instead of individuals with a treatable disease, according to Dr. Altha Stewart, UTHSC Department of Psychiatry assistant professor and Director of Center for Health and Justice Involved Youth.
