St. Jude wins $130 million contract to improve flu vaccine

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has won a national contract to create a flu vaccine that will be as effective for people with underlying conditions, including obesity, as the healthy. “It’s going to be a challenge,” said Dr. Chasity Shelton, assistant dean in the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s College of Pharmacy. “The researchers are going to be working hard because the flu virus is one of the viruses that is really smart. It mutates and changes very quickly. You have to outsmart it, so to speak.”
