50 years ago: 1965 “The University of Tennessee wants to help make Memphis the medical capital of the world, and Memphis is well on the way toward becoming just that,” Dr. Andrew Holt, UT president, told an alumni meeting last night at the Rivermont. Dr. Holt said new projects were increasing the diversity and quality of facilities in the city’s Medical Center, of which the UT Medical Units are the nucleus. He called the Medical Center “one of the principal resources of Memphis, a resource spreading the fame of the city throughout the world, and it is destined to continue growing.”
