Erika Dillard is the founder of local medical device startup Popcheck Technologies, and, for now, she runs it by herself. Awhile back, she was asked a stimulating question by an angel investor.
“With you being the only person,” they said, “Who do you have, who has the expertise you don’t?”
This got her thinking. With an M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), and the completion of a four-year neurosurgery residency in Philadelphia, Dillard has a wealth of medical experience. But there are other areas key to startups she has little knowledge of.
