‘Enough is enough’: Families affected by gun violence call for solutions as crime rate increases

|

A new Memphis Shelby Crime Commission report shows a 30 percent increase in violent crimes involving guns already this year compared to the first quarter of last year before the pandemic. Pastor Charlie Caswell and his team at the Legacy of Legends CDC are working to address crime in a collective way by starting at one of the potential root causes–trauma. Caswell said they’re been partnering with the University of Memphis and the UT Health Science Center to provide counseling to more than 100 kids. During these sessions, he said they help them understand Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s) which are traumatic experiences at a young age that can lead to behavioral, physical, and mental health issues later in life.
