Donated works of art raise cash for UT medical school in Memphis

An online auction of more than 300 works of art by Memphis artist Paul Penczner on Wednesday collected more than $70,000 at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, according to officials at the Memphis school. Penczner died in 2010 at age 93 and his widow, Jolanda Penczner, donated works of art and the building that housed the artist’s Midtown studio to the university. Funds raised support a College of Medicine Department of Physiology endowment for cardiovascular research. Penczner painted portraits of some retiring professors at UTHSC and had been treated for several heart attacks.
