This week, Shelby County will probably force restaurants to start closing by 9 or 9:30 p.m., according to one of the medical experts advising the county. UTHSC pediatrics chair and influenza pandemics expert Dr. Jon McCullers told the MBJ July 5 that the county will likely institute the restriction as a way to halt the fast-rising hospitalizations and case count. From June 27 to July 3, the seven-day moving average for local cases rose from 203 to 316, and active hospitalizations went from 217 to 286.
