Can an advocate reduce your COVID risk? UTHSC thinks so

Tennessee is one of 11 places in the nation where the gulf between the haves and have-nots makes it pretty easy to predict who likely is going to get a severe case of COVID and end up on a ventilator or worse. In West Tennessee, the work is being done by researchers at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, including Dr. Jim Bailey. His work in care disparities includes a three-year study with Michael Uguweke, president and CEO of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, that showed that having a nurse or pharmacy tech visit ER “super users” after a hospital stay saved $4,118 per patient within six months of discharge.
