Local researcher discovers, testing fat-burning molecule

A discovered-in-Memphis molecule that activates estrogen receptors could eventually lead to a new treatment for obesity. Dr. Ramesh Narayanan, an associate professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, discovered the molecule nine years ago and said it converts “bad” fat tissue to “good” energy-burning fat.
