The University of Tennessee Health Sciences’ sixth annual Giving Day wrapped up last week, but the funds raised will have continuing impact. More than 1,000 donors came together to contribute a record amount to this year’s Giving Day, April 21, reflecting the commitment of the university community to advancing health science education, research, and patient care across Tennessee.
Held the week after the inaugural Health Sciences Weekend and following the State of Tennessee’s historic $311 million commitment toward the new $350 million College of Medicine Interdisciplinary Building, the Giving Day campaign raised more than $1 million, surpassing last year’s total of $956,246.
“Every Giving Day is a reminder that progress at UT Health Sciences is driven by the collective support of our community,” said Melissa L. Robinson, DHA, chief development officer and associate vice chancellor for the Office of Advancement. “We are grateful to all who choose to invest in our mission.”
A key component of this year’s campaign was its 1-to-1 anonymous match to award research grants out of the Cancer Discovery Fund, now in its second year. In addition, donors contributed to advance initiatives aligned with this priority and to support ongoing research and innovation across the university. Gifts were made to support 148 funds across the university and came from 34 states.

“Every gift on Giving Day is about someone choosing to be a part of our story,” said Caitlin Clark, director of annual giving. “Whether the gift comes from a longtime supporter or a first-time donor, that choice helps sustain and amplify opportunities that strengthen the work happening across the six colleges in UT Health Sciences.”
Chancellor Peter Buckley, MD, also shared his appreciation in an email message and video to donors, thanking them for their continued partnership and belief in UT Health Sciences’ vital mission.
