Volunteer to help middle school students make giant puppets!

Two groups of middle schoolers, Bellevue Middle and  The Coolnerds Home School Group, will be creating Giant Puppets to be used in a dance production of “Giraffes Can’t Dance” at the University of Memphis.

This is a unique opportunity for the students to participate in a collaboration between the University of Memphis and OFF THE WALLS Arts.  The puppets will be the inspiration for the choreography. Our goal in the workshop is to DESIGN and BUILD  the key characters in this children’s book that teaches us that we all can shine, once we find our way.

.-Imagine and Design African Animal Puppets to be used by dancers

-Use recycled materials to create art

-Learn paper mache techniques

-Mixed media to create textures to represent animals of Africa: fabric, foam, paint, paper, plastic, metal and more

We need volunteers to help organize and guide small groups of children (3) to stay focused and problem solve, any level of crafting welcome!

Many of these skills can be used in careers in Costume Design, Theater, Fashion, Sculpture and other art pursuits.  In addition to these hands on skills, the children will have the opportunity to be part of an endeavour much bigger than any one of us; this teaches us to work together and dream big.

The workshops will be at OFF THE WALLS, 360 Walnut Street, Memphis, TN 38126

We have made a calendar on signupgenius.com where volunteers can sign up, please use this link:
