UTHSC-Rhodes College Population Health Researcher Program – Deadline Extended to March 17 5pm

|

Interested in working with outstanding Rhodes College students? Our new Population Health Researcher Program will provide support for up to six Rhodes College students from a variety of majors/backgrounds to gain research experience by working with well-suited UTHSC faculty mentors in the coming year. Students would work over the summer (40 hours per week, 8 – 10 weeks), followed by a semester-long internship (8 hours per week, 12 weeks).

Population Health Researchers focus on health outcomes, their distribution within a group of individuals, and their connection to a diverse array of health determinants. These health determinants may include factors that are social (e.g., education, employment, culture), physical (e.g., built environment, air quality), genetic, or behavioral (e.g., smoking, exercise), as well as the policies and interventions that link determinants with outcomes.

If you are a UTHSC faculty member and conduct population health research, we encourage you to prepare a faculty profile for potential matching with a Rhodes summer student. Faculty profiles should contain: a recent copy of your CV or biosketch, plus a ‘faculty profile’ containing the following:

·       narrative description of your current research area (1 paragraph)

·       brief summary of the research project that the student would be working on (1-2 paragraphs)

·       description of the research “outputs” that the student can expect to produce or assist in production of (1 paragraph or bullets)

Note: Projects must have some sort of concrete output such as a report, presentation or paper. Projects that will ultimately result in a publication opportunity for the student are desirable.

Interested students will be able to review faculty profiles and apply for positions by providing their resume and a description of their educational background and skills. An intercollegiate committee will identify potential matches, with individual UTHSC faculty approving final assignments.

Interested faculty should send their profiles to Teresa Waters (twaters@uthsc.edu) by 5pm, March 17, 2014. You will be contacted with potential matches by April 4, 2014.
